আমাদের কথা
Ten Years of Being Bengali, Together, in Bangalore
The Varthur Bengali Association, popularly known as VBA, is a community of Bengalis living in and around Varthur, Bangalore. People from different professions, backgrounds, age groups and walks of life have come together here with a shared connection to Bengali culture and to the sense of community that comes from being among people with similar roots.
For many of us, living away from Bengal means being away from the places, people and everyday experiences that shaped us. Yet our connection with Bengal continues through our language, food, music, literature, art, festivals and the many traditions that have been part of our lives. VBA grew from this simple desire to keep that connection alive while building a home for our community in Bangalore.

Over the years, VBA has become much more than a platform for celebrating festivals. It has become a place where friendships have grown, families have come together, children have made new friends and people who were once strangers have gradually become part of one another's lives.
Our cultural activities are an important part of this journey. Through music, dance, drama, literature, art and celebrations, we try to create opportunities for people of all generations to participate and share what they love. Durga Puja, in particular, brings together the many different aspects of our community, but our efforts continue throughout the year.
One of our priorities is to keep our culture meaningful for the next generation. Our children are growing up in Bangalore, surrounded by a world that is very different from the one many of us grew up in. We want them to know their language, understand their heritage and experience the joy of Bengali culture, while also growing up as an integral part of the diverse society around them.
We also believe that being part of a community comes with a responsibility towards the society around us. Through charitable initiatives and community activities, we try to contribute in whatever ways we can. These efforts are an important part of what we want VBA to stand for.
VBA has grown because of the people who have contributed their time, ideas, energy and affection over the years. Some have been with us from the beginning, while many others have joined along the way. Every person has added something to this community, and together they have shaped what VBA is today. At the heart of VBA is a simple idea: VBA gives us a place to celebrate our roots, share them with others and pass them on to the generations that follow.
ভার্থুর বেঙ্গলি অ্যাসোসিয়েশন, আমাদের সকলের পরিচিত VBA, হল ভার্থুর ও তার আশেপাশে বসবাসকারী বাঙালিদের একটি মিলনমঞ্চ। বিভিন্ন পেশা, বয়স, অভিজ্ঞতা ও জীবনযাত্রার মানুষ এখানে একসঙ্গে এসেছেন বাংলা ভাষা ও সংস্কৃতির প্রতি ভালোবাসা এবং নিজেদের মধ্যে একটি সুন্দর সম্পর্ক তৈরি করার ইচ্ছা নিয়ে।
বাংলার বাইরে এসে বসবাস করার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে আমাদের জীবন অনেকটাই বদলে যায়। নতুন শহর, নতুন কাজ, নতুন মানুষ, নতুন ব্যস্ততা আমাদের প্রতিদিনের জীবনের অংশ হয়ে ওঠে। কিন্তু বাংলা আমাদের জীবনের যে অংশটুকু, তা থেকে যায়। ভাষা, গান, সাহিত্য, খাবার, শিল্প, উৎসব, পারিবারিক স্মৃতি এবং ছোটবেলার অসংখ্য অভিজ্ঞতার মধ্যে দিয়ে সেই সম্পর্ক আমাদের সঙ্গে থেকে যায়। সেই সম্পর্কটাকে ধরে রাখার ইচ্ছা থেকেই VBA-র পথচলা।
সময়ের সঙ্গে VBA শুধুমাত্র বিভিন্ন উৎসব পালন করার একটি সংগঠন হয়ে থাকেনি। এখানে অনেকের বন্ধুত্ব তৈরি হয়েছে, পরিবারের সঙ্গে পরিবারের পরিচয় হয়েছে, আমাদের ছেলেমেয়েরা নতুন বন্ধু পেয়েছে এবং অনেক মানুষ, যারা একসময় একে অপরের কাছে অপরিচিত ছিলেন, ধীরে ধীরে এই সম্প্রদায়ের আপনজন হয়ে উঠেছেন।
আমাদের সাংস্কৃতিক কর্মকাণ্ড VBA-র অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ। গান, নাচ, নাটক, সাহিত্য, শিল্প এবং বিভিন্ন অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে আমরা সব প্রজন্মের মানুষকে একসঙ্গে নিয়ে আসার চেষ্টা করি। দুর্গাপুজো আমাদের বছরের অন্যতম বড় আয়োজন হলেও, আমাদের সাংস্কৃতিক ও সামাজিক কর্মকাণ্ড সারা বছরই চলতে থাকে।
আমাদের একসাথে উদযাপন
আমাদের পরবর্তী প্রজন্মের সঙ্গে বাংলা সংস্কৃতির যোগাযোগ বজায় রাখাও আমাদের কাছে খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। আমাদের সন্তানরা বেড়ে উঠছে বেঙ্গালুরুতে, এমন একটি পরিবেশে যা আমাদের অনেকের শৈশবের থেকে সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা। তারা যেন বাংলা ভাষা ও সংস্কৃতির সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে পারে, নিজেদের শিকড় সম্পর্কে জানতে পারে এবং একই সঙ্গে বেঙ্গালুরুর বৈচিত্র্যময় সমাজের একজন স্বাভাবিক অংশ হয়ে উঠতে পারে, সেটাই আমাদের ইচ্ছা।
VBA আজ যেখানে পৌঁছেছে, তার পিছনে রয়েছে বহু মানুষের সময়, পরিশ্রম, ভাবনা এবং ভালোবাসা। জীবন আমাদের যেখানেই নিয়ে যাক, আমাদের শিকড় আমাদের সঙ্গে থাকে। VBA সেই শিকড়ের সঙ্গে আমাদের যোগাযোগকে আরও শক্ত করে, নিজেদের মধ্যে সম্পর্ক তৈরি করার সুযোগ দেয় এবং আমাদের সংস্কৃতিকে পরবর্তী প্রজন্মের কাছে পৌঁছে দেওয়ার একটি জায়গা তৈরি করে।
